For FiDi specifically he's better of in cheaper parts of brooklyn like Bay Ridge or Fort Hamilton which has pretty good express bus and subway coverage, or even Staten Island (direct ferry to FiDi):

These places have "suburban feel" though they may have to up the budget. As always in life this is a matter of tradeoffs that they would have to discuss as a family, ie is the husband busting his chops for years waking up at 5am and seeing his kids for 2 hours a day worth the suburban feel and the OP's remaning a stay at home mom, etc. Only they can answer that.

Also, it may not look like it on the map, but FiDi is rather large and due to never ending construction is is a giant pain in the arse to walk through. Wether the OP's husbend works at Goldman or in one of the new WTC buildings on the West Side, or somewhere on Broad or Water street will make a huge difference in terms of his total time and pain involved.
if he needs to be in the office by 7, then im sure he is aware that he will have to wake up early.

he doesn't want to live in Brooklyn over cranford.

There's early and there's EARLY. I personally work in FiDi and live in Brooklyn. I have to be at my desk at 7:15-7:30am. I am really not a morning person so it hurts. Right now I am able to make it if I roll out of bed at 6:30 and catch a cab (from Brooklyn) which makes my life bearable. If I lived in westfield/cranford I woud have to wake up 30 minutes earlier to catch 6:25am train. If I had to wake up even earlier than that on a daily basis for no good reason (other than wife wanting "suburban feel") I'd probably reconsider my values... if you know what i mean. But to each his own.

if they are happy in bayonne then maybe they could do bay ridge. however, if they aren't happy there then they probably want to try a nice suburb. i moved out of Brooklyn to Holmdel and there's no way im going back. commute is longer but its worth it.

For one anyone that wants a comfortable commute then go out as early as 5:30am I'm sure any train line is empty. I do sense a silent racist comment in the 2nd point.

Newark to WTC by PATH is somewhere around 50-60% Indian male occupants.

I drover through and all around cranford the other day and quite frankly I didn't think it was "nice" at all. It looked somewhat run down and i got the impression it's a blue collar town. I don't see any major difference vs bay ridge or SI.

Nothing to really argue, just that the OP said that he wants to move further west into NJ and you're suggesting Staten Island and Brooklyn. If you can find a 4 bd in Brooklyn for 650k, please PM it to me as I would like to buy one of those as well.

OP also references their kids. How much are you budgeting for private schools in Brooklyn? Add that to the $1mm+ for the 4 bd they need and I think over their budget?

That is a ludicrous comment that is not based on reality.
