Can anyone shed any info on Totowa?

We're most likely moving there in the near future and wondering about the town. Safe? Good for kids? Things to do? Restaurants? etc?

The house we're looking at is not in a flood zone but does anyone have any info on flooding in the town in general, should we be concerned?

Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I grew up there. The lower boro can flood in extreme circumstances such as a hurricane. I am referring to the area south and east of Union Blvd / Totowa Rd. However, a recent flood mitigation project involving the storm sewers was just done and is supposed to mitigate that problem. There are several good Italian restaurants on Union Blvd., but the best in the area is E&V on Chaimberlan Ave. in Paterson. The schools were good growing up, not sure about now. What I do notice is the traffic on Union Blvd. has increased exponentially from 30 years ago. Its a very political town, run by a core group of Republicans. Murph's on the Blvd. is a great place to hang out, especially if you want to know what's going on in town.

It's a nice area. Good schools, not sure about the flood areas. I think the north side of town is nicer because it has more hills and bigger, nicer houses.

Wow, sage advice from a "Cliftonite". A very small percentage of Totowa actually floods. These areas are easily identifiable.

Here's a FEMA map; In fairness I have nothing against the town.
