NJ is bankrupt for a reason....the voters; not the sharpest.

As AC craters, those jobs and taxes are going away. Casinos in North Jersey would make up for them, and MUCH more. It's actively idiotic not to allow them.

Casinos bring so many negatives that trump the jobs. I have never visited Vegas or AC and thought hmmm, what a nice place to live and work.

give me a break, they were paid fine comparatively for the area, it's just greed and union bosses posturing for more, the whole thing is a corrupt operation.

i mean the casino is losing hundreds of millions and the management is trying to keep it float while the union is asking for more and more.

i dont like carl icahn, but respect him for calling their bluff and basically told them to go f themselves and closed shop.

now you have thousands more out of work on tax payer dimes, the union bosses who pushed for this could careless and just walks away to their next gig doing the same thing.

Unions were created with the noble idea of protecting the workers through collective bargaining due the horrible abuse and dangerous working conditions during the industrial revolution and afterwards. But over the years it has devolved into this giant corrupt squid sucking the lifeforce out of companies making them not competitive.

For example you have crazy union rules that force people to leave at exactly 4:30pm on the dot, even if they want to stay a little longer to finish their work, they cant. Or prevent companies from firing non-performers, so all those guys do the bare minimum or in some cases absolutely nothing - because they know they wont get fired. How does that make a company competitive? The evidence is in all the chapter 11 filings many are solely because of the union's stranglehold.

We have so many laws nowdays on worker condition/safety and benefits, we need to do away with unions.

Protecting mediocrity. That's what the unions are all about. And I blame the workers just as much as the hack union thug bosses. Why? Because the workers voted for their own suicide. They chose it. They protected their mediocrity, or so they thought. But even the best vampire will run out of blood unless he changes his host. And while some of the union leaders might have that option, the workers generally do not. They drain the host until the host is dead, but like a bacteria that kills a living thing, and then, by necessity, itself, the workers ultimately self-immolate as their mediocrity and their protection slowly but surely kills the company. And then of course, themselves.

Union membership has declined precipitously in the past 30 years. You can only steal "other people's money" for so long until it runs out. Unions are ECONOMIC VAMPIRES.

End of an era, and a sad day.

The decline of Atlantic City actually followed my own decline.

When AC was at the peak of its powers in the late 90s to mid 2000s, I was going down there several times a month alone despite it being 2 and a half hours away.

Nowadays I go only a few times a year and typically only when invited by friends.

Nostalgia for good times. Losing a ton of $, but still good memories.

I have not been to Atlantic City in a couple of years. How many casinos are closed now (empty)?

The state of Nj can't make anything a success. they can screw up a wet dream.

Trust them with funds..not on your life.

After the 23 cent raise in gas tax, I'll vote every single proposal down and vote for anyone other than the incumbent if they are on the list of names that screwed NJ residents.

these legislators need to recognize we taxpayers exist.

A concept which collectivistic unions hate since they need coercion and compulsion to steal what they cannot earn. Union members that operate as labor monopolies deserve to be unemployed and destitute. And the Taj workers that destroyed their employer should starve. And the other casinos should absolutely refuse to hire any union mob member who closed down their competitor and will one day be only too happy too close them too when their demands are not met.

A disgusting pack of wolves got their just desserts. I hope they enjoy it and think twice about what being a member of a labor monopoly really means: FAILURE.
#spock voice Fascinating.

Small detail: AC was destroyed by competition, not unions. Eh well. Nothing will convince so I wont bother with the long version.

It seems Sweeney wants to prevent Ichan from an end run over the unions in the closure.
