Thanks for all the responses! I ultimately decided to bite the bullet and spend extra on the train ticket to get into DC. At least the bus allows for a ticket reschedule. I travel between NYC and DC a lot, so I can make use of the money spent on the bus ticket another time

Not knowing to much about your trip ,if possible you could get picked up at BWI or New Carollton(not late at night) stops
