Hi New Jersey! I'm a producer at a documentary company in Brooklyn, and we're working on a TV pilot about gender. We’re searching for expectant parents in the tristate area who are planning to have a gender reveal party the weekend of 2/17/18. We're hoping to find excited parents who would let our tiny, respectful crew film their event. Any interested parents should email me at rolecall2018[at]gmail.com for more information. Thanks so much!

What exactly is a "gender reveal party"?

People have parties to tell what sex their fetus is??

Good god, can society get any more demented?

Are you the old man in the corner whining that kids these days are getting uppity with the new ice cream cakes? Plain marble cake with homemade frosting is the proper way to bake a cake! *yells at clouds*

Yes, a gender reveal party is a social event where the couple drop the details on the baby.

I agree, it's insanity. What's next a viewing parties, with crotch shots, of the actual birth?

Nah, just another excuse to elicit and gift and feel important.

Haha, old WOMAN, that would be. I like ice cream cake.

A gender reveal party just seems self-indulgent and stupid. Not the same as a new product or invention.

It's just a baby shower, not anything new really, I don't understand why there's all this pushback.

It's kind of like when we renamed "parlors" into "living rooms," same amount of floorspace with a different name.

How insensitive. Everyone knows you have to wait for the child to pick from one of the 6 or 7 choices.

There was no indication that it was the same thing as a baby shower.

When does it occur? A baby shower is usually held about a month before a baby is born. Aren't these people revealing the baby's gender long before that? Honest question. I didn't know what gender my daughter was 26 years ago.

Also expectant parents don't usually throw themselves a shower. Is someone else throwing them a party at which they are expected to make the revelation?

It's worse than that.
