No, but you can tell them how stupid it would be to drink a 4 pack of red bull would be, and what it does to you. Parents are a guide, everyone (even a kid) is going to make their own decision, and its a parents job to inform them.
Yes it is. I mean, in 1993 when I was in high school we drank Mountain Dew for our little kick, and then my mom banned it from the house.
Now, Mountain Dew has an energy drink and I just shake my head at how much worst can it get.
Text on the can itself: Do you love the taste of Mountain Dew but need a little more of a kick? MDX is the new product by Mountain Dew makers of AMP. MDX, I’m sure stands for Mountain Dew Extreme, but since ‘Extreme’ is so out and acronyms are in this is bound to be a hit anywhere. The new 14oz bottle is much more appealing than the standard 12oz can and comes complete with an ergonomic shaped midsection.
Active Ingredients *Per can, not per serving:
Ginseng, taurine, guarana, d-Ribose, caffeine, and maltodexetrin.
Yes, I applaud these laws and they should not be sold to minors. This stuff will end up driving these kids crazy.
Not saying that this needs to be passed into law (though it may not be a bad idea...), but you can tell your kids all you want "you're not allowed to drink Red Bull, Rockstar, etc.", you can ban it from the house, but you can't keep them from walking into 7-11 or Wawa and buying it when you're not there, so you'll never really prevent them from drinking the crap.
Again, this law probably won't make a difference anymore than the restriction on cigarette sales to minors keeps 15 y/o's from smoking, but it's not necessarily a bad idea.
Lets get back to the point of this thread- Why is the NJ Government talking about energy drinks when property taxes are outrageous, gangs are taking over the streets, and corruption is rampant? When an elected official is worrying about energy drinks we have problems. Hence- The State of New Jersey!

Kate- you are 100% correct- look what I just found:
NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS/AP) -- Garden State lawmakers have yet to agree on a budget. So it's surprising they're venturing into another divisive area: The State Slogan.
I have a bunch of slogans but the moderators probably will not like the language I use.

This has historically been the ploy of communist governments (which IMO are a few shade of gray removed from socialism, the preferred government of choice these days in NJ), namely, to distract from real issues, while the 'nomenklatura' continues to laugh all the way to the bank, at the expense of the proletariat. These folks live in separate worlds that we are not even privy to (witness the previous Eliot Spitzer debacle for recent evidence). However, they have run their platform historically as representatives for 'working families'. That's really a bunch of crap. What they are really interested in is divesting personal wealth and business culture through confiscatory practices. That's their main objective, with a heavy dose of class warfare along the way. Why do I bring this up? Because this platform, if really deciphered and studied, by a disciplined and well educated population, would vote these folks out of office (in this case, the Democrat Party of NJ) en masse, and replace them with comptent persons qualified to run a government, by virtue of reducing the levels of it. But, in order to keep power, the left must throw out 'red herring' issues in order to distract the people. Issues that are grounded in emotion, lacking in substance and depth, and grab the immediate attention of the masses, by thinking those in office care about them and their children. (Racism has historically been their most effective issue, but there are several more) Issues such as banning energy drinks are blathered in this 'pathos' form of rhetoric, but there is very little in the way of 'logos'. In this case, logic would dictate that families are better suited to adjudicate matters such as these, without having an intrusive government mandate what we can do. It's a shallow issue, and one that can be settled by applying pure logic. However, real issues, such as budgets, and implementing a fair system of taxation that rewards prosperity can not be broadcasted too loudly from Trenton. At least not for very long. Because if these issues were called attention to on the level they deserve, the pols in Trenton might fear that those in the suburbs might just put down their remote controls long enough, stop focusing on these 'reality' TV shows, and instead shift the focuses onto their own realities, which aren't very pretty these days, if you have a property deed that says "New Jersey" on it.

Trenton just wants to give the illusion to NJ residents that they're doing something while thinking some other things to make new laws out of as so to then delay and try to make the real issues effecting this state "go away" from their elected responsibilities.
Most of the Elected in Trenton = BS tax payer money grubbers/stealers.
Most of the NJ residents = screwed because of the Trenton Elected.

So are we going to ban the thousands upon thousands of items we all have in our home because some morons abuse them?
Although I can see some logic in restricting things to minors when it could potentially affect the rest of society (ie. firearms), but this is certainly not one of them. What ever happened to parental responsibility? If the parents don't want their kids drinking "energy drinks", then they should be the ones to decide. I agree with most of the other poster in that Trenton would rather distract us with non-issues, under the guise of child welfare, then deal with the more pressing issues in this state. To be fair, this game wasn't invented in New Jersey and it's certainly not confined here. Just look at the BS on the national level. People are more concerned about American Idol and Gay Marriage then they are about privacy rights and constitutional liberties. It's really quite disgraceful.
