I am planning to buy property in the Heights, between Paterson Plank Rd and Central Avenue. I guess to be no further than 5 minutes from the LIGHT rail. There is a lot of inventory right now but which blocks to focus on? How do you think this neighborhood will develop in the next 5 or so years? I want to hear responses from people that currently live in the Heights. Thanks!

Union City's development will also have a big impact on that area, since it's so close. There are a number of huge condo buildings/conversions going up in Union City at the moment, with prices from the mid 200s for small studios on lower floors to the 900s for two bedrooms on upper floors. I think that's developing a bit quicker than JC in that area at the moment, but that whole area is changing similarly.

I moved out of the Heights couple months ago because the area was not getting better, but appeared getting worse. I moved there 2 years ago thinking it was a good investment. Nope..Try maybe, it might be tolerable in 10-20 years, if even possible. Skip JC and dont invest. Most people dont speak English, well you get the point.

) So I take it if you don't speak english you think the area is bad. I lived on that same block for over 35 years and never had a problem. I'm sorry that it wasn't a lilly white area but it's a city and I liked it and still do. I guess you grew up in the burbs and didn't see many of them(minorities, spanish speaking people). You can't blanket the whole city as being BAD.

When you walk into a Mcdonalds and they have special menu's in Spanish - I have a problem with that. Same goes for advertisements on the local buses - all in Espanol. Yo no viva en Espanol, I live in the USA.
Also, - every day walking to JSQ I see bulletins stating 'Stop the deportation of Illegal Immigrants now!' WTF, I have no explanation to that..All this should give you a better picture of Sweet JC, USA baby.

I would agree that someone who wants to live only among folks with Anglo-Saxon (and maybe they'd allow other north European) ancestry would be well advised to avoid places like Jersey City. We have lots of folks with Spanish ancestry, other southern and eastern European ancestry, Middle-Eastern ancestry, African ancestry, Asian ancestry, etc.

There are probably some rural areas in states like Minnesota, Oklahoma, etc. that would be more to their liking.

As for me, I like multiculturalism.

Hi INVESTORJCH...don't listen to Todd72173 (if you look at his other posts you will see what type of person you are dealing with) Take this from someone who is a homeowner in the heights, and who currently lives here. The heights is a great area, of course there are some streets that need more time, but overall west of Central Ave is good. I wouldn't rule it out as an investment.
