Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick and Roman Nose in Jersey City are pretty good.
Honestly, I've been to a lot of places and none are all that memorable.
If I had to pick one place, it'd probably be Spuntino in Clifton. It's chain restauranty, but the good is good and the beer is good. And I'll be honest, Maggiano's is pretty good too.
Pick any of the Portuguese restaurants in the Ironbound section of Newark. They have good Brazilian rodizios as well. You can't go wrong in the Ironbound. A+
Going to give South Jersey a shout out since we are typically ignored in the surveys (at least in New Jersey magazine) and say Graziano’s in Atco. Looks like a hole in the wall, but great food and friendly people. Plus italian food tastes better when you're listening to Frank Sinatra, who the owner apparently loves, judging by the myriad of Frank pics covering every wall. We like to eat at the bar (fully upholstered bar chairs!) but you need to get there early for that.
