They are going to have to cut costs and start living in the real world rather than in fantasy world.
no they never will. government will never do that. the only thing they would do if put in a position to cut costs is cut where they dont get harmed (those who bribe them) and the people will feel the most pain so that they dont have to make cuts. government will never cut where it would be successful; they cut where it hurts people and they can undo those cuts and not make any other cuts.
Merging two towns to lessen overall bureaucracy and expense is a GOOD thing for everyone involved.
Why is diversity even a concern? Let towns do what they want.
So which town gives up control of it's service's??? Town A or Town B .Each town wants their school system to be the best but by expanding it to other towns feel they will be taking on the problems and issues of the other towns and losing control of their own town and while I pointed out education it can be said for Police ,Fire and EMS all services .Never going to happen ...............move on!
the people must be fed up... after a while and after all the taxation... when do the fiefdoms say **** it.... time to make the call.... forget nimby...forget i personally know my police chief...forget i dont want my john to go to school with jamal blah blah.... at what point will these people say enough is enough and actually walk the walk they been blathering about for decades
There is zero chance of this happening. Do you see some of the places on this list: Saddle River, Alpine, Rumson, Far Hills....the residents in places like that have direct lines to decision makers. There will always be some “exemption” carved out even if moves are under taken.

The people of this forum crack me up. There have been countless threads on this topic, and most of the people who comment in those threads seem to be in support of this. Now that it’s actually being introduced the cynics are out in full swing with their peanut gallery “it’ll never happen” commentary. Give the thing a chance. Is East Orange going to merge with Glen Ridge like someone sarcastically suggested? No, but there are other more compatible towns who would theoretically benefit from merging with other towns. Let’s just see how it all plays out.
