I have a friend that still lives in New Jersey that texted me this link, and I was very interested as an ex-resident of New Jersey that moved because I considered property taxes to be too high to raise a family there long term. So the article naturally piqued my interest. I thought of this forum, and how many times this topic was discussed, so I thought I would share this link for those who actively engage in this forum to read it. Anyway here is the link:

i dont see the point. government doesnt cut costs. that is simply not how government works. there will be no savings and it will only hurt people in good districts.

It ain’t happenin’. The proposal is carefully designed to ensure merged districts would just about completely consist of towns of similar demographics. Even if voters approved it, Ed Law Center and other legal advocates for the poor and non-Caucasians would have it tied up in court for decades unless radical changes were made to ensure diversity among the merged districts. And you know how thrilled the $$$ districts would be about that, so they would then have it tied up in court for decades.

It ain’t happenin’.

Merging two towns to lessen overall bureaucracy and expense is a GOOD thing for everyone involved.

Why is diversity even a concern? Let towns do what they want.

Uh huh... so we can still have bans on interracial/same-gender dating/marriage, women voting, separate water fountains, etc.

Sometimes the “people” have to be dragged kicking and screaming...

i wish that people would just hurry up and realize that the bottom line is that the government simply has no right to tell us how to live. now people are ok with same sex marriage but think that the government has a right to stop 3 or 10 people from marrying each other. that right does not exist. same as the right of anyone to use any drug, the right to get any medication without a prescription, the right to buy whatever we want or sell whatever we want (as long as there is no fraud).

anyway, merging towns isnt a good thing. there would be no financial benefit and things would only end up worse for people. its almost comical seeing people believe that anything government does will save them money. has that ever worked? its simple, nobody bribes a politician to reduce funding and so spending never gets reduced. politicians do not do anything that they arent bribed to do. so stop suggesting they do things; the people never win.

Also in that article, looks like Sweeney has some other gems.

"Explore the viability of transferring major assets such as the New Jersey Turnpike system to the state pension system to lower the unfunded liability and generate new revenue streams for the pension system.

Create a Property Tax Assessment Study Commission to study the state's tax assessment practices and make recommendations for countywide or regional tax assessment to ensure consistency and efficiency."

In other words, raise taxes even as you tell NJ residents that you're saving them money. As for combining districts, bad idea.

They are going to have to cut costs and start living in the real world rather than in fantasy world.
