Look, I’m a super liberal living in Mount Arlington, which is quite conservative. I was a little hesitant at first to move to such a conservative area. But you know what? It’s fine. There’s lots of Trump stickers which make me wince a little, but people are nice. They don’t scream about Trump in my face and I don’t scream about Bernie in theirs.
You surely shouldn’t have a problem in Mountainside, as long as your wallet is big enough…
The town is beautiful, taxes are low, home prices are fair. I notice it’s kinda 50%/50% politically. I’m a Democrat and am wondering what the experience would be like in that town. Granted it’s so close to Westfield and other areas that I’ll probably spend most of my time exploring the areas around me
I don't think it should affect you. I lived in Red Cape May County for 18 years and now also red area in rural south Jersey. I have never had an issue, but then again I don't advertise it, either. I did join the Ocean City Democrat Club, which consisted of me and half a dozen septuagenarians, lol.
What kind of question is this? There are like 5k ppl in that town. What are the odds someone who lives or lived there posts here and then also is a liberal or leftist and then also cares enough to answer this vague question?
What are the concerns with being a liberal in a conservative town in NJ?

^This.
One of my Republican Dad's friends from the VFW was one of the few Democrats in our town. He was a Vietnam vet, a lawyer, well-liked, and active in the community. Midland Park was SO Republican that when I lived there in the 1990s, disagreements in the local Republican Club led to the formation of The New Republican Club. So there were TWO Republican clubs in town, but Democrats were few. Finally one Democrat was elected to town council, and an Independent won as mayor.
But nobody called one another vile names or acted like the people on City-Data's P&OC forum, lol.
Why did you delete your post, OP? Cause you got flamed a little? Ya gotta get a tougher skin if you’re gonna frolic in the playground of the Int O’ Net.

To be fair, you cared enough to answer and you didn’t even have the answer. Plenty of people here give feedback on towns they don’t live in so I don’t think it was such a crazy question. We get similar questions all the time here: How would I fit in as a gay/black/single/liberal/left-handed person in X town? Nobody ever wants to be the minority. No biggie
Of course he deleted it, the fear of some these people is quite amazing. CNN and the rest of fake corporate news is doing their best to scare the hell out of people. Sadly you have people like this who are complete sheep and believe it.
