This house was actually closer to 206.

My guess is they were tearing out pipes, caused accidental damage to the gas pipes...

or...

They were doing accidental reno work, and as complete momo's who watch TOH and think "I can do that!" while being clueless about the safety reasons for code enforcement, and accidentally took out a load-bearing wall.

According to the Daily Record there were no natural gas lines. Probably the propane tank blew. Photos in the link.
