Yes, I agree..guess with gas $$ people are car pooling or taking public transist where available and of course many out of work which keeps them off the road

I noticed it starting months ago when the gas prices went up. I guess all the people who HAD to drive their cars to work have found another way to travel! Seriously though, I did notice all summer. We were driving from Brooklyn to PA and back just about every weekend and it was taking us a lot less time on Friday nights.

It's everywhere, every state (well except for Pennsylvania and Rhode Island): http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/tvtw/08jultvt/08jultvt.xls

Go to page 6 on the Excel spreadsheet for overall data by state. NJ is down, about 5% in June and 2.5% in July, which is pretty much in line with most other states.

Well, when the alternative was spending the weekend in my Brooklyn apt it was like escaping from a cage. lol. Now that we moved into a house we love in an area we love - we won't have to do it EVERY weekend. Since we don't leave until 6:30 or 7pm the traffic really isn't all that bad. Now that we don't have to deal with Staten Island it feels like we're there in the blink of an eye! We haven't been there in a month and I cannot wait to see the leaves and have a nice, roaring fire. sigh.

Well with all this reduced traffic volume I'm compensating by driiving real slow !
It saves me money, and keeps things just the same for everyone else.

I've read that alot of people are leaving Jersey for lower housing prices and less taxes. Could you be seeing the effects of this? Whatever it is, enjoy it while it lasts. I HATE sitting in traffic.
