Were any gang signs thrown up? Colors? Gang paraphernalia? Was someone "SooooWoooo!"-ing by the food court? or C-walking in the parking lot?

I'd take gang members any day over annoying teeny boppers there for the scenery. I go to the mall once in a blue moon (maybe twice a year, once the week before Christmas) but one Friday night I wanted to stop in a Verizon Wireless store and was driving near the Ocean County Mall, so I pulled in. I've never seen so many 12-16 year olds in one place, and they were all screaming, running all over the place, causing mischief. It was absolutely insane. And their parents were all illegally parked outside letting them off and picking them up in their overly giant SUVs they probably can't afford. It was a truly sickening display that these kids have NOTHING to do other than go to a mall, walk around, and annoy the ever loving sh*t out of anyone who is actually trying to shop.

That said... other than a reason I'd absolutely HAVE to go to the mall for something, I reserve my mall trip to once a year, the week before Christmas. I usually make the drive up the Parkway to go to Short Hills, since they have the nicest stores and I can get higher-end gifts all in one place. The downside, of course, is dealing with thousands of "Real Housewives of North Jersey" types, but it's only one day, and they usually have a cool car or two parked in the corridor that I can check out to remain sane after a trip to the likes of a Coach store to buy my girlfriend an overpriced bag that was probably made in Thailand for .30 cents.

I worked at the GSP when I was teenager (way back before Bamberger's changed to Macy's). It was still unenclosed back then, too (meaning: an outdoor mall with little street signs and sidewalks and its own post office). When I first got my driver's license, I would go to the GSP on Sundays (when it is closed) to practice driving and parking so I wouldn't have to worry about traffic. I have only been there maybe 2 or 3 times in the last ten years (I live in NYC now) and it did have a somewhat depressed feel, but I can't even imagine a mall being "infested" with gangs. The chance that your car could get broken into is always something to consider at a mall, but isn't Paramus still known for having an excellent police force?
Back then they used to put up a big Santa sitting on a big chimney, and from the GSP parking lot you could look up, look across Rt. 4 at Alexander's and see the most amazingly beautiful mural in the world which nobody could figure out what it was (I always thouoht it was a world map).

I did.
This thread is about the GSP & its supposed "gang infestation" , not your views about teenagers at the Ocean County Mall.

And who appointed you the chief of the forum police? Threads ebb and flow. This is a thread about malls in New Jersey. I commented about a mall in New Jersey. How about you chilly out, get a life and stop bothering people over their comments on a message board.

I will tell you why. The entire premise of this thread is entirely false & needs to be squashed. Paramus draws many, many, many people from outside of its immediate area. Why have the notion that it is somehow dangerous to shop in Bergen Co floating around?
This area brings in a ton of money & is a source of great revenue. NJ gets unjust press as it is, why let falsehoods linger?
So while I'm sure your views on the youth of Ocean Co are captivating & a must read, save it for somewhere else.
