Can someone tell me how much of a chance I may have getting a teaching job in any of these elementary schools? I am still in school now but was wondering what my chances may be in about 2 years. Or any of the school districts close by.
The teaching market is brutal throughout NJ, especially for elementary jobs. However, the market in the southern part of the state may not be as bad as in the North, because salaries are not quite as high, and there aren't quite as many people down there.
Start planning ahead, and apply to every district in which you'd be willing to work. Make friends when you complete your student teaching, and ask for reference letters. It will not be easy. Good luck!

Very low chance unless you know somebody or are willing and able to substitute for potentially a long time first. I said this before and I'll say it again - way too many college students in NJ are majoring in elementary education. NJ is a low growth state, it grows maybe 2% in a good year, there are almost no new schools being opened. Population is growing around 2% net as well, that is births minus deaths and a small amount of in-migration from other areas making up any difference.
This DOES NOT bode well for teachers. Too many teachers going after too few jobs. Go to the Carolina's or out west. Get into nursing, it is a better pay, better opportunity career that is in much demand throughout NJ.
I thought so too.... but my RN friends tell me that's a myth. (They actually thought the same thing about teachers!)
Apparently, if anything, a hospital would be quicker to hire an LPN over an RN, put them on per diem as opposed to FT, and pay them less.
