Personally never a fan of Bergen County (the area or the people...)
How could that be????????? It changes so drastically from the North to South, there is no true definition for the residents of the county as a whole.
Quite a ridiculous statement.
Living in Piscataway or the border of South Plainfield into Piscataway would be great if your boyfriend doesn't want to travel far...let's not forget that 287 traffic folks.
You can find decent areas if you don't mind the commute. As for Perth Amboy there's two sides...it's prodominately Hispanic town, the only area is ok is the waterfront area that is being built up. If you buy one of the lavishly expense yet somewhat small apartments or townhomes for a discounted $300 - $400k you can enjoy the waterfront view and pretend to be somewhere other than Perth Amboy.
Oh try South Amboy...there's a small area right next to this park off of the main road great ocean view, reminds me of the south, features homes and apartments there...don't worry I know my directions aren't the best but there's only one main road through the downtown area - just stay straight to the dead end and make a left, you can't miss it...they've built new apartments and townhomes along the beginning of that strip near the police station...you'll have to drive to everything though.
It may be easier to tell you what areas to avoid...in Jersey there's a town to fit just about everyone's needs...just depends on what's most important to you...
I would definitely look into Metuchen. Nicer than the areas mentioned (imo) and centrally located.
