Three people have died after seven people were shot at a party in Hobbs, NM. Police say they were called to the 1700 block of E. Bond Street around 12:48 a.m. in reference to a loud party with shots fired.
The Hobbs Police Department announced Sunday evening they have arrested a subject police say is connected to a fatal shooting that killed three people and injured four others. Police arrested 19-year-old Bishop Henderson, he has been charged with aggravated battery. Officers responded to a shooting on the 1700 block of E. Bond Street at approximately 12:48 a.m. Sunday, August 25 in reference to a loud party call with shots fired. Officers found a total of seven gunshot victims at the scene.
Three victims sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. Those individuals were identified by Hobbs Police Department as 18-year-old Khalil Carter of Hobbs, 24-year-old Kristal Avena of Hobbs, and 22-year-old Lamar Lee Kane Jr. of Washington D.C. Four victims were transported to the Lea Regional Medical Center. Those people were identified as 21-year-old Michael Major of Florida, 20-year-old Turon Windham of Chicago, IL, 23-year-old Rontrell Hills of Louisiana, and 20-year-old Jasmine Stansell of Amarillo, Texas. Authorities say from LRMC, Major was treated and released while the remaining three victims were flown to hospitals in Lubbock, Texas and are currently being treated for their injuries.
I'm pretty sure the Chicago kid attends the University of the Southwest, and given the ages of the victims and the shooter, my guess is it was a college party.
Don't think they were roughnecks. Again, not a good party to be at by any stretch. Loud 'music' and gunshots. Sounds like gang activity to me.

Fair enough. Didn't mean to impugn the reputation of roughnecks. Know more than a few and they're fine people.

Among the three killed was Lamar Lee-Kane, 22, a basketball player from the University of the Southwest. Lee-Kane’s school mourned his death in a tweet, saying they were saddened by the tragic event. “We ask you pray for the school as a whole as well the Lee-Kane family,” the school wrote.
New Mexico Senator Tom Udall also expressed his grief for the seven people injured or killed in the shooting, all of whom were between 18 and 24.
“Words cannot express the shock and sadness at the news of another shooting in one of our communities,” the senator wrote on Twitter.
Authorities have not released information about motive as this time.
On 8/25/19 at approximately 2:04 PM investigators learned that a subject involved in the incident on Bond Street was in the 600 block of East Broadway.

I'll hazard a guess the perp was either kicked out of the party or denied entry in the first place and returned with a gun to express his displeasure at being excluded. That's often the reason when there's a shooting around here at a party attended primarily by young black men, as this one appears to have been.
