Hello all,

My soon to be wife and I will be married on Oct 31st and honeymooning the 1st week of Nov. We are wanting somewhere we can hike, see mountains, and do outdoor activities. I figured New Mexico might have some of this? I know we are interest on the Aztec ruins. So overall, would New Mexico be a good honeymoon spot?

So the 1st week of Nov.how is the weather? Any good mountains to hike, etc... Any help appreciated.

What city were you thinking about staying in? If you stay in either SF or ABQ you will have more than enough options for hiking and mountain adventures. But I think that Santa Fe would be the perfect blend of romantic and outdoorsy.

Here are some places to start your research:

Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands - Recreation
Santa Fe - Recreation
Carson National Forest - Recreation
Jemez Mountains Region, NM : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost
Manzano Mountains : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost
Sangre de Cristo Mountains : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost
Aztec Ruins National Monument (U.S. National Park Service)

Didn't have a city in mind. I'm completely unfamiliar with New Mexico but came across an article about honeymoon spots which then continued to me posting this thread

Santa Fe or Taos would be ideal. Taos is set against the base of the mountains. You can hike to high mountain locations within less than an hour drive. You also have the Rio Grande River Gorge near by as well. The Taos pueblos claim to be constantly inhabitied for over 1000 years. Bandelier national monument park is a place to see ruins of cliff dwelling NA, it is near Sante Fe or about an hour and a half drive from Taos. The temperatures will be nice in April generally certainly not warm and can be cold occassionally. Snow melt can make some hiding muddy this time of year. I recommend NM for a place unique compared to most US areas. Taos is artsy like Sante Fe only much smaller. Sante Fe is a great choice as well

Any possibility you could move the whole endeavor up a few weeks? The first week of October is the Balloon Fiesta. You could get married in a balloon!

I'd say yes to all of the above. Use Albuquerque as a home base, and stay at the beautiful old Hotel Andaluz downtown. Great hotel for a honeymooner. But since November in ABQ can be a bit chilly, you may never leave the hotel, though ;-)

Most likely not from the balloon park... Only one commercial balloon at the balloon park during fiesta. "While most ballooning outfitters cram up to 20 people in a basket, this flight will max out at 10 passengers, " only about $250 per person. You gonna count on the weather? Former crew member who now just chases the balloons and watches them fly over and land...

I was trying to be goofy but thanks for the info just the same. Seeing as the original poster said he/she was completely unfamiliar with NM I figured they may not know about Balloon Fiesta and I wanted to put the idea in their head. I have a feeling though that they just might find someone to take them up for ten minutes tethered to exchange vows and pop a cork.
