It's nothing like running on paved streets even though there is a roughly graded "track" through very rocky terrain.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to post this earlier. Registration for this year's event ends today (3/12).

Here's an event this coming weekend - April 9, 2016 - that I just learned about from an article in the Ruidoso News. Not sure why I haven't known about this before now. Apparently those who are more involved in competitive cycling knew of the event since it's already closed to entrants. But everyone is free to ride the many miles of trails in the area anytime, year around!

Mountain Bike Riding/Racing in the Ruidoso Area

For those not aware of the numerous opportunities for off-road bicycling in the Sacramento Mountains, there are numerous web sites with information. Small sampling:

Summer tourist season begins in May in the RUIDOSO and LINCOLN COUNTY area. A calendar of events can be found here:

RUIDOSO AREA EVENTS CALENDAR

After what has been called the windiest, driest and warmest March in 122 years, April kicked off with a light snowfall and has been wetter than any recent April to date, hopefully meaning plenty of May flowers.
