WEBSITE: Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau - Pork & Brew

13TH ANNUAL PORK & BREW BBQ STATE CHAMPIONSHIP JULY 2-4, 2016

The 13th Annual Pork & Brew and New Mexico BBQ State Championship will return to the Santa Ana Star Center July 2nd – 4th. Bringing together the best barbecue vendors from around the region, this three-day festival featuring BBQ, beer, live music and interactive family activities will be one of the biggest events of the summer. Galloping Grace Youth Ranch will be returning to the event, showcasing a petting zoo and pig races throughout the weekend.

The 13th Annual Pork & Brew, hosted by the Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau, will feature an indoor/outdoor format, ensuring the 15,000 expected attendees can enjoy all the festival has to offer rain or shine. This is quite possibly the best way to spend your 4th of July weekend this summer in New Mexico. Between chomps of fantastic BBQ, you can check out local arts and crafts, burn off some calories by dancing to live music and even take the kids for a face painting and a few trips through the bouncy houses. There will also be kid’s watermelon and adult pie eating contests twice daily.
General Admission: $6; Active Military w/ID $4; 65+ $4; Kids 4-12 $4; Kids 3 & Under; Free
Times: Saturday & Sunday, July 2 & 3 - 11am - 7pm and Monday, July 4, 11am - 5pm

Star Spangled Celebration – Inn of the Mountain Gods
The web site is rather confusing in that it states:
Quote:
The Star Spangled Celebration is FREE and begins at 3 p.m.
...but then shows a $10.00 "cost?" Appears the fee is for those wishing to enjoy the concessions, and not an entry fee, but not sure. No outside food or drink is allowed.

For a complete list of Ruidoso area events for the July 4th weekend, and a few others in the month of July, you can find them in this edition of: Vamanos Magazine.

PS:
Notable events include:

*Daily racing at Ruidoso Downs horse track
*3-day self-guided tour of Art Loop - 16 Lincoln Co. artist studios open house.
*Annual rodeo and ceremonials at Mescalero hosted by the Apache tribe.
*Gun and Craft show at the Ruidoso convention center.
*Smokey Bear Stampede - rodeo, fireworks and more in Capitan, NM.

Yeah I noticed that too, that's why I didn't include the price. Ten bucks still seems like a pretty good deal either way.

Under 16 yrs of age are free. I haven't attended in awhile and at one time the entry fee was considered a donation or "parking fee." That was before the state on NM took over its preservation costs.
