Yup... it's been Californicated. I had intended to move there a couple years ago and was disappointed in the land and housing prices. SC used to be really cheap... employment has always been iffy. We ended up in Ruidoso instead since the land prices were lower and employment much better. Apparently they are expanding the branch college here also... converting the Spencer mansion out on Airport Road.

I was just in Silver City again this past weekend, and it dawned upon me what the downtown section reminded me of: Bisbee Arizona. The town's economy was essentially forumlated on the same economic background, in the name of mining. Silver City, I believe, has spectacular potential that has not yet been realized. I think if you have similar gentrification that Bisbee has experienced, Silver City may one day become a crown jewel of NM. There is also the added advantage of having Western New Mexico University in the town.
