It WAS a Rattler.....the guy freaked out pretty much and took a couple of extra unnecessary shots. It just startled him because he just wasn't expecting to see it right by the feed barrel. Then again, where and when do you expect to see them, it's not like they give you much warning anytime. It was all coiled up, head up and tail up rattling, ready to strike. GAWDDDDDDD....!!!!!!
Feed barrels bring mice. Mice bring the rattlers. Just keep that in mind, be aware of your area. Snakes are not my friends, but I do like bull snakes as they do keep away the mice.
