You need to be concerned here in the USA also.
I've personally seen what the Coal mining industry has done to West Virginia....and it ain't pretty!
Unless you like drinking bottled water for the rest of your life, I'd pay attention to WHO is trying to gut the Environmental Laws in New Mexico and the rest of the country?

I'll give you a hint.....it ain't the tree huggers.

What do you want? Clean water in New Mexico or clear profit in NYC or Peking?

Mike, I lived in South Florida, in an unincorporated area that was recently declared a "cancer cluster" (statistically high number of cancer cases among population). They were just south of a former Pratt-Whitney facility. Nobody can figure out what is going on and why but this is 2010-2011-2012 we are talking about. You could have stuff rearing its ugly head now based on pollution that happened 20-30 years ago.

Anyways, my $.02.

And what does that really have to to with Silver City?

I am familiar with the Pratt & Whitney plant in Florida, I went to some engine classes there in the 60's when it was on Bee Line Highway. I guess that is now a highly populated area. My wife had relatives there...

"Cancer Cluster"? Do we have a "Cancer Cluster" in Silver City?

Please try to stay on topic, which is "Silver City"...

My comment on "not seeing any of that", was the crude things the person posted about. Young slutty girls, witches, etc.
I am well aware of how mines work, as my husband works for a contractor at Santa Rita mine.

I moved here from Maine, which has a very high cancer rate. We're all going to die one day any way. I intend to enjoy my life in the meantime.

You did read the WHOLE thread? Someone mentioned West Virginia due to the coal mining (related to Silver City) and then someone said that they are not concerned because US has such great environmental regulations. I then said that these regulations are a bit bogus because sometimes you don't know where your environmental issues may be coming from as exemplified in the case of a cancer cluster I lived in.

In my opinion, you should always be aware of something like a huge coal mining area near where you will live, as in the example of Silver City.
