Hi, I am a 30yr SWF moving to Nola in May. I have a very small dog and would like an area that is pet friendly, reasonably fun, reasonably safe. What are your thoughts on living in Warehouse District vs French Quarter? Thanks!

As far as safety, the Warehouse District is one of the safest areas in the city, the French Quarter not as much.

The WhD. and the FQ are both very urban areas and neither have much in the way of private yards. There is some greenspace along the riverfront and also Lafayette and Jackson Square. I know people who live down there with Labs and Retrievers, so they might be okay walking them around pretty often and/or trained them to go on the concrete. Some people train their dogs to use paper or pad inside, so that might be an option. If your dog absolutely has to go do his/her buisness outside on grass, then you'll have to look outside of these areas for some private yard space.

The Lower Garden District is pretty safe and right next to the Warehouse District. You can find condo's or rentals that have some type of yard. That goes for the Marigny/Bywater area as well which is right next to the Quarter, although I would say not quite as safe as the Lower Garden District.

Thank you for the info! She is actually already trained to use pee pads in the bathroom. She is a yorkie and is full grown 4lbs, so she doesn't need much space at all. She is a medical service dog. I was hoping to find a place that was pet friendly so I wasn't having to explain about her going into places because she is a service dog, just to make day to day life easier. She loves people and other dogs and I would like to have a little dog park or something enjoyable of that nature close to where I live. I was going to try the FQ, but feeling swayed to WD for the amenities. Also, it seems that safety changes block to block in the FQ, so being in NY it makes this tricky. Is there any areas in WD I should avoid?
