I am just curious...I have always been curious about New Orleans...and am gathering info for employment prospects. I am a CPA with work experience in forensic accounting, cost accounting, and management accounting. How bustling is the NOLA business community? What are some of the key industries within the city? I have identified the largest employers through research on the web, but I was hoping to get a little bit more local opinion. Does anyone have any recommendations of employers (from personal experience, word-of-mouth in NOLA, etc.)?
I am single and do not have any children...I don't have many commitments, and have already checked with the Louisiana Accountancy Board and my license would transfer from my current state (Missouri) without any issues.

The biggest private employer is Tulane U. The biggest industry is tourism. Oil is still big here, but more on an operations side than corporate/financial.

Try the government. The National Finance Center of USDA is in New Orleans and they always hire accountants. They pay better than the private sector too.
