Hi Y'all
My wife, who is from Arkansas, and I (detroiter) are moving to the great city of Nola for a job oppertunity. My wife and I have lived a lot of places little rock Detroit Chicago Alabama, now we are moving to Nola. We have been traveling to Nola for years and have loved the time we have spent there. We jumped at the oppertunity to move. Now that the time has come to pack up our boxes we are wondering were do we live?mdo we rent or buy? I have been browsing these forms for a while and talking to family in Nola about the move. It sounds like insurance post Katrina has gotten pretty wild ( understandably so ) some are leaning to renting but would love to hear opinions on renting vs buying and what parts of the city to live in. We are not scared of the crime as we have lived in the heart of Detroit for years, but we also don't need the local pharmacy on the corner if you catch my drift. What parts of the city do you recommend we look in? Our budget is 1400 a month and are looking for 2 bed rooms and 1.5 baths in a perfect world. Is this a doable arrangement or is our budget to low for 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths? At feed back as to we're in the city to live is appreciated. We want to live in the city proper and have loved the time we spent in the wearhouse district and the garden district found the quarter to be a little "hit up" any info from the locals would be appreciated.we ate both in our late twenties and up for a good time.

Note to locals I am a bad speller and find Nola much easier to spell than the full name of the city no disrespect ment

No disrespect takin

I rented a 2br in a nice complex (the Saulet) for $1680 three or four years ago- and that was considered pricey. I'd suggest looking on craigslist, you can probably get something good within your budget... if you have questions on the area, just come back here and we'll be glad to help.

Also, here's something that you can get for $1300:
Renovated French Quarter

this is a renovated 2br in the French Quarter, one block from Bourbon. That seems awfully cheap by our current standards.

If you can handle Detroit's problems, you're gonna do just fine here. Welcome to milder winters, better food, friendly folks and an exploding economy.
