Where can one go about finding places to do water activities such as paddle boarding, boating, jet skiing, or tubing? Are you allowed to do these things in the lake? Is it only allowed a certain time of the year? Do you personally ever do any water sports in the lake or do you travel somewhere else nearby? Is the water safe to swim in?

The lake water is perfectly safe and swimming in the lake is legal despite what some levee board officials might claim. They just don't want people swimming near the seawall on the southshore.

People jet ski/tube every weekend in the summer. For paddleboarding/kayaking, Bayou St. John is a better option.

Yes..the lakefront is perfect for waterports....jet skiing, sailboating, even speed boating....no surfing because the waves don't get big enough. ...and also like burnett said, the bayou that runs from the lake to mid city is perfect for kayaking, not sure if jet skiing is done there tho.

Nothing to back this up other than instinct but I'm willing to bet they don't allow powered crafts on BSJ.

Oh, and in general, boating is a big pastime here. I had a boat when I was in my early 20s and I loved taking it down Bayou Segnette starting at the launch in Westwego.

Going a little further out, there's a lot of water activity to be had on Tchefuncte River (north shore). Not speed boats but plenty of pontoons, rec fishing boats, yachts and dinghies. Then there's your 'passive' water activities whereby you sit on the front porch of a bar and watch said craft sail by.

Pretty sure you're right, but there's no place to launch em anyway.

sounds like paddleboarding and kayaking would be a fun way to spend an afternoon in bsj?

Assuming paddleboarding is something you do with your feet in the water, I wouldn't recommend it. You can rent kayaks at Bayou St John and 610, though.
