Hi everyone,

My husband just received an offer to work
for a company in New Orleans.

I wanted the residents' input input about living in
New Orleans; the pros an cons, and any suggestions
of the best cities surrounding New Orleans
that we should consider living in that's not too far
of a drive.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to reading
your responses, and making an informed decision!

Where is his job location? WHat hours will he be working? What is your price range? What is important to you (schools, shopping, etc), rent or buy?

New Orleans isn't cookie cutter. Gotta give us details of what you're into, that plays a huge role of where a lot of people live.

I am into a safe and nice-quiet community, but not too far from the action at least; great to start a family; I'll be renting, and he will be working around Russel Ave in New Orleans.

I'm not sure where Russel Ave. is. I see Russell St. near Harahan and River Ridge. There are tons of rentals in Harahan, and River Ridge is a nice community area.

Remember that although the cities are contiguous, there are many seperate municipalities that people think of as "New Orleans." What is the zip code?

I believe that would be on the Westbank. If so you should check out Harahan, River Ridge, Westwego, Marrero or Harvey, maybe Metairie. Those areas have plenty of apartments (some not so nice) relatively good ed. and is your typical generic Jefferson Parish sprawl. Ideal if you have kids or want to be close to the job.

If you're looking for good ol' New Orleans charm I'd suggest moving to a ZIP code that begins with 701

If you can find a way to live just over the parish line into jefferson parish , you will save on car insurance which is CRAZY in orleans parish, ask your agent, car ins. here is more exspensive than most cities in the US.
