I am dealing with a management company and not a landlord. I don't know if that is better or worse. They did send me a "rider" to my lease that allows me to get out of the lease if I give a 60 day notice.
Thats not too bad then. Worst case you pay two months and your not there. For the deal your getting on the new apartment consider it just a cost of getting in.
If they are still communicating with u that is positive sign. They wont even mention the word lease let alone sign. again so many vacant aparts. But someone is moving in every day sometimes more than one. I know its the most frustrating thing. I had atleast 3anxiety attacks
