So...just got a letter stating someone above us on the list took the apartment. The list has not budged- think they update it quarterly or so???

Original number for 2014 list is in the 70's.

At this rate, I don't see Penn South reopening the two-bedroom list for quite some time. I'm getting the impression that the 2019 list hasn't started getting called yet. Is that correct?

The one-bedroom list is moving much faster. The very last person on the 2019 list, who was originally No. 600 the day of the drawing, is now up to No. 226 on the "actives only" list, which isn't bad progress. It's hard to see when this list would be close to being exhausted.

I have no idea about the studio list.

The weird thing is that they open the studio, 1-bed, and 2-bed lists every time they do a lottery, so in theory they all move. One person years ago on this board said it took her 20 years of waiting to get a 2-bedroom but she felt they'd changed the system since then and that wasn't the case anymore. If it takes us 20 years we will no longer qualify because our child will be an adult.

And yes Macnyc2003, very unlikely that the 2019 people are getting called yet for 2-bedrooms. There are still 175 2014 people on the list before them.

Wow. Yes, years ago you could just walk into the office at any time and put yourself on the list. Which did reach decades. Now the goal is to clear the list in five years, more or less. So only a certain number of applicants are accepted each time the lottery opens.

I don’t know what PS’s deal with the city says about opening all the wait lists at the same time. Maybe that’s a requirement, I don’t know. But other buildings seem to just open up the specific lists that they need to.

Has anyone been getting called for the 2019 studios?

I seem to recall that this apartment was in the same line and building as one you turned down earlier. So maybe the silver lining here is that you will be offered something better next time. Hope so.
