I never knew that. Which street facing is better school zone? We have a 5 year old girl.
my kid is entering kindergarten in the fall.
so Penn South is covered by two zoned elementary schools. W. 26th is the boundary; if you live north of it, you're zoned for PS33 Chelsea Prep. If you live south of it, you're zoned for PS11.
they say PS11 is more overcrowded but has an active PTA that fund raises alot of money for the school. Like, their PTA fundraiser a couple of years ago featured Jerry Seinfeld.
i'm told PS33 has a very active PTA that raises a decent amount of money but not on the same level of PS11.
PS33 is located essentially on PS grounds while PS11 is a couple blocks south of the complex on W.21st.

Dreamernyc, that is really good information! I imagine it's hard as a newcomer to actually end up in the part of Penn South you're aiming for, since basically people can turn down only one apartment. But after living in PS for three years, parents can get on the insider list to transfer into the zoned school of their choice.

you have to have lived in your apartment for three years before you can go on the internal waiting list. then you have to wait for an apartment to open which in my case would be a 3BR which i've already been told is a long wait.
by that time the kids would have forged friendships and connections with the current schoolmates and wouldn't be worth it, imo, to move just to transfer elementary schools...but the zoned middle school encompasses the whole complex so that would an ideal time to change apartments.
Thank you so much for your help and information. It seems like we are going to be the next batch for 2br. Please keep us updated on how you like the new apartment once you moved in!

i'm really glad the cooling system works wells in the bedrooms. i haven't turned it on in the living room yet
Omg, yea we have to think about parking too since with family of four. we definitely need to keep our car. Are you doing the Reno in kitchen yourself or hiring a contractor?

We hired someone from the maintenance staff to do it in their off hours. Price for labor was reasonable. The tiles I got for free.
I posted pictures of the work it’s should be on the last two pages.
That’s good. Can you do light renovation on your own?
