"You all are clearly missing the point and it’s sick that you made this into immigrant hate rather than humans having genuine concern about how other humans already here in need/in difficult situations may be negatively impacted."

Oh, go sell that to the simpletons watching Fox, we all know what's really going on here.

Every single person here who participates in the lottery program should take in and support one migrant. That will 100% mitigate this problem. (Of course, if that is what the city proposes, you’ll have everyone here watching Fox News and voting red faster than a rabbit gets f%ked. And that is the 100% truth)

This is why Governor Abbott and Ron DeSantis is busing them up here. Because many people don’t care about the problem until it hits them in the face. For now, it’s someone else’s problem to deal with. Out of site out of mind. In the meantime, I’ll sit here and type what a great person I am by being humane. Yes, allow non NYC residents access to all lotteries and programs meant for New Yorkers. And everyone here best take in one migrant. Put your money where your mouth is. Give up your apartment and be a good boi!

Leaving heated debates and name calling aside let's break this down like a fraction.

NYC lone among any other state or urban area of NYC has a "right to housing" provision.

Now people can get bent out of shape, call others bad names or otherwise get all hot about what some are saying (or how), but simple truth is this:

To date nearly 100K of this migrants have arrived in NYC and more are arriving each week. They will *ALL* need shelter and city is required to provide. Period, end of story.

Now how all this plays out will take years to play out. Even if their asylum claims are ultimately rejected even after appeals that does not mean a darn thing really. These people are *NOT* going anywhere for a few to several decades if ever.

As for those admitted under "temporary migrant" scheme, again that doesn't mean squat. People admitted to USA under same program from countries such as El Salvador have been here for two or three decades, again they aren't going anywhere either anytime soon if ever.

Something is going to have to give somewhere. Summer tourist season is starting and all these hotels may not be cool with housing migrants during what should be their peak earning period.

Finally other thing to remember is that so called "right to shelter" is *NOT* universal throughout NYS. It mainly affects NYC due to various legal cases and a consent decree entered into by city. If Adams et al think they are going to export this problem to upstate, Westchester and LI long term they'd better think again.

Oh I don't know...

According to published news reports upwards of >20k hotel rooms are empty each night in NYC. Thus obviously not all hotels are opening up to taking in migrants no matter how money city is throwing around.

If city is successful in suspending right to shelter it may prove a game changer. Once word gets out NYC isn't such a soft touch these migrants may make other plans.

I genuinely feel sorry for any American citizen who is on a waitlist for housing right now i’m praying for you.
Just going back to the original question- no I don’t think migrants will get priority in the housing lottery. Using the information from the city we can see that the focus on shelter for recent migrants was through emergency shelter sites and humanitarian centers- there are 100 in the city according to this release: https://www.nyc.gov/office-of-the-ma...ing-forward#/0

The same article talks about using affordable housing in the future but as one of a variety of solutions including places of worship. It’s definitely too early to say that non migrants are losing places on existing waiting lists but there is a chance some affordable apartments have not come to the lottery due to the city being directly involved. Unfortunately the low approval odds over many years and general opaqueness of the lottery overall is partially to blame for the conspiracy theories that will spring from this so-called crisis.

Homeless vets are being booted out of motels here to house migrants. It doesn't matter if they find another place for the vets. They should be priority.
