Hey guys, i recently got a 25# log number for an apartment that has 27 units. I’m an out of state applicant, no preferences obviously. I know there isn’t much info on out of state applicants but i’m wondering if anybody has had any previous history similar to this? How much of a chance do I have to be contacted?

They are supposed to put you at the very end of the list, after all the NYC applicants. I guess you'll have to wait and see if you get contacted or if they skip your name. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Please keep us updated. I'm interested in seeing how this works for out of state folk. Best of luck.

Applicants who live in New York City receive a preference over non-city residents

It will also depend on how desirable the area is, and which AMI you are in. If you are in a high AMI and maybe a slightly less desirable area, they might get to you.

60% AMI, not a desirable area (East New York right off Sutter Ave Station L Train)

Is the whole lottery 60% AMI or is it mixed? In mixed AMI lotteries, all of the lower ones tend to get taken by community board residents, leaving only high AMI for everyone else.

The 60% AMI will be very popular anyway though. Anything under 100% AMI tends to have way more applicants and people are less likely to decline units if offered.

If I were you, I would not count on this building in your housing plans, your odds aren't 0 but they're not good. Even if you were to be called, it would take a very long time, many months or over a year since they have to go through all NYC applicants first. Try not to think about it too much and if you end up being called in the future, it will be a nice surprise. I wouldn't make any life decisions about future moves or jobs etc. based on waiting for this lottery.

Definitely keep us updated if you have any movement, you are in a less common situation.
