Starrett City pro.......
1. Nice-sized apartments
2. A lot of amenities

Starrett City con......
1. Public transportation access/Bus to train. B20 or B82 to Bway Junction is more preferable to same buses to Pennsylvania Avenue. Bway Junction is about another 5 min from Penn Av.
2. Starrett City is Da Boondocks!

My grams lives out there in Spring Creek co-Ops. She's been living out there for probably 10+ yrs now her apt is a decent size for a 1 bdrm she could fit a kitchen table in the kitchen area.....she also has a dining cabinet in the kitchen. Living room, Bathroom and Bdrm are all decent sizes. She fit her Queen Bd and 2 nightstands in her rm.. She wanted me to move out there.....but ever since I moved fr Far Rockaway 20+ yrs ago I have been living close to Manhattan and that is what I am use to....and at that time of her wanting me to move out there to be closer to her I was gonna be farther from my friends and hanging out in the city so I declined and waited and ended up moving to Ft Green. My grams has a 1 bedroom over there on Pennsylvania Ave. She is comfortable with living there she use to work near Times Square the commute Fr Spring Creek to TS was about an hour. My grams is retired now.....and has my brother living with her which ease my family mind a lil cause she's in her 70s but she doesn't look it or act like it. Anyway, I recently been out there since they built the shopping complex. I enjoy shopping out there though I wouldn't live out there and it's seems safe but like with any place you live some more than others you always have to be aware of your surroundings.

I love it out there. Beautiful park areas within the complex and a great sport center all of the apartments are giant for rentals. This is because it was originally intended to be a co-op and co-op apartments are always bigger than rentals because they expect you to own and live there for a long time. The nearby Gateway Mall is really great as well. Starrett City boasts a amazing boxing club as well. I nearly moved there myself years ago however I ended up moving into a co-op. I think I would have been happier there however because all the courtyards and field make for a very peaceful and nice living environment. Unfortunately, since the new owners took over and changed the name they have been set on milking the residents. Rents their are nearly market-rate despite the fact that the complex is in the Mitchell lama program. Rent for a 1 bedroom for instance range from $1100-$1250. I wish the tenants would buy the complex and turn it into a co-op and bring the rent down, or the city would step in and provide funding to keep rent lower.
