Because they go out and get professional degrees to get paid more and be of a benefit for the greater good so that others that hate can call them pretentious until they need there services.

I make pretty good money myself and I drive a Dodge truck because I'm American and that's what I choose to buy. The European cars are sexy but can eat you up in maintenance costs. My wife and I both have education, I live in a small town with farms and tractors. Westchester likes to pick on blue-collar folk but a career in agriculture requires a 4-year degree. You can go to college and get a blue-collar job, some people just enjoy working with their hands and being outside rather then being forced to sit behind a desk all day. That would drive me crazy, sitting behind a desk all day.

All though my income is that of "yuppies" so to speak, I am far from one. I've been to NASCAR races, listen to country music, hang out with down to earth people, and yes I do know some who take that yuppie thing to a whole new level.

I think as a society we should be opened minded and take people for who they are instead of what they are. Fine restaurants, fancy cars, big houses is what we see from the outside, for all we know those people could be drowning in debt or they could be doing just fine. If you're happy with life let others be as well.

You have to live in a city to be a yuppie, so the big house thing doesn't tend to apply (at least for NYC because they'd be in either apartment buildings or multi-family rowhouses). If you commute from the suburbs, are you still considered a yuppie? And most times need more than just a 4-year bachelor degree. Say an MD, JD, MBA, CPA, etc...

I think you're confusing yuppies with ordinary white people.

Are you sure Im confusing yuppies with regular white folks? Also note that not all yuppies are white, plenty black and Asian yuppies too who have similar preferences and tastes just like their yuppie white counterparts.
