Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Beach getaway (Maryland: hotel, live in, food)

I'll be driving from NYC and would like to visit a nice beach for a long weekend (4 days/3 nights) next month. I'd like to limit my drive to 8 hours and my budget for hotel, food and fun is about $1,000. I'd prefer something quiet as opposed to touristy areas like Virginia Beach and Atlantic City. I'm also open to lake suggestions.

Any suggestions?

Try googling Assateage Beach in Maryland. It's totally commercial free and they have horses running around all over the island. It's much more peaceful and way less touristy than Ocean City, MD. beach a bit north. It's about a 5 hour drive from where I live in Brooklyn.
