I work in midtown NY (close to Penn station) and my husband works in Wall Street. We currently live close to Metropark station in NJ. We are planning to move somewhere close to the city so that we could save on our commute time. Please suggest some nice and safe location for a young couple. Our budget is $3000-$3500 for a 2 BR accomodation. My husband's work hours are quite unpredictable. So, I would prefer a location more close to downtown with easy commute options (commute time < 30 mins). Also, we have a car. So, we need a place with resident parking (no street parking or parking far away from the apartment)
Thanks in advance!!

You might be able to find something in FiDi. My building on Wall Street has an 804 sq ft apartment right now for $3400. It says 1 bedroom but that means it either has a home office or 2 living areas, or an extra large living area (many in the building are 28 x 13) based on the square footage. They do allow walls. There is a garage on-site, although they are very expensive so we park 1 block away and save $200 a month. The area is extremely safe. The building has 24/7 doormen and there's security on Wall Street 24/7 as well. Your husband will love walking to work if he has a busy schedule, which is what I do.

Why would you not buy something if you can spend that much? Even if you sold it in two years, you'd be okay. I would suggest a brownstone by either Prospect or Fort Greene Park.

Jersey City (or Hoboken) by a PATH station should be under 30 minutes for both Midtown and Downtown. You might have to deal with street parking depending on your apartment, but it would be much easier to find a space than Manhattan.
