My father has been running his business using his truck for 20+ years.
Someone has filed a complaint that we had a truck in our backyard.

I had no idea this was considered a violation since it is in my private property.
The truck is commercial, it's one of those box trucks.

My backyard is fenced off with metal gates.

Is it really illegal to park in my own backyard with a commercial vehicle?
And if it is, can I convert my property to make it legal?

-Ray

Where exactly do you live, Manhattan, Bronx, SI, Queens, Brooklyn...? It might depend on your boro or maybe even how your specific block is zoned.

This is from 2011, but in the comments section it seems zone related

Where can I Park my Commercial Vehicle Overnight in NYC?

Right, I see:

"The prohibition against parking on a residential street between 9:00 P.M.-5:00 A.M. contained in 34 RCNY 4-08(k)(6) raises a major headache:"

Right, but I'm not parking on the streets. The truck is in my private property (back yard)... Is there something I'm missing?

I saw that too but that was just a user comment. He wrote that cus he had the same violation.

Id like to see it written somewhere on .gov website stating where you can and cannot park commercial trucks and why? Can i obtain a permit of sort to allow parking commercial in private property?

How did you become aware of the complaint?
Did someone call 311? Did an agency send your some sort of notice?
Or, did you receive a parking ticket?
It would seem likely that any notice or citation, that you would have received, would contain the number of the statute or ordinance in question.

Is it parked on gravel, concrete or dirt/lawn? If its dirt/lawn then the violation is for parking in a non-parking area.

It is parked on concrete. Looks literally like a normal backyard on where someone would store their cars. Its not a half assed job backyard too. Its been a nice fit for my truck for 20+ years.
