I have a related question. Is there a particular way New Yorkers pronounce the word "elementary"? I watched Liz Cho on the news and she really pronounces every possible syllable. Where I grew up (not NY) the last syllable is almost pronounced "tree" instead of having two syllables "tah-ree".
The Philadelphia accent also does the "shtr" thing. And they pronounce their words with an "aw" sound rather than "all". Don't believe me? Get someone from Philly to say street or automobile.
