Chacker- Born and raised in kensington. Perfectly safe, but it really doesn't have any identity, kind of no man's land. 30 years ago it was heavily Irish and Italian, today it is just a completely random mix- The high rises on ocean parkway tend to be newer russian immigrants. coney island avenue, the northern boundary of the neighborhood is refered to as little pakistan, and certain blocks bordering on boro park and midwood are enitirely Hasidic. All very nice people but tend to be kind of insular. Since it has virtually NO people walking around with 'UCONN' or 'MICHIGAN' sweatshirts the rents are comparably cheap to some other areas closer to manhattan, and you wont find any starbucks around here. However, like the rest of NY, you jump on a train and you're in an area with restuarants and nightlife in 20 mins.
