You don't get a higher search engine rank due to more clicks. It has to do with content, updating content, linking to/on other sites, etc. they probably provide "traffic" ie clicks on sites that their customers are paying for. So, it looks like the client is getting clicks to their site, however they're useless clicks. Because they're paying you to click the link and you have no intention of buying the product or service. Thus, what matters is the conversion rate and not the clicks. I'd rather have 100 clicks with a 10% conversion than 1000 clicks with a .01% conversion.

Bwsj81, I know a little about the topic of SEO through my professional and personal travels and I can tell you you're incorrect. The concept of link building and click through absolutely help improve a websites search ranking organically. We used to run an IT support website in NYC and learned the good and bad side of this. Social media is now a huge feeder system into search rankings. That's where these guys seem to be focused.
