DH and I are becoming empty nesters... We have two neighborhoods that we have found apartments. Which do you think will be a better investment, and a better place for a couple of 60 yr old to live. East 66 and Second, ot Park ave and 39 th? Thanks!
Personally, I prefer Park ave and 39th simply because I find the upper east side stuffy and suffocating. However, since I assume you have the money to afford either one, why don't you ask a real estate professional familiar with both areas? They would be better suited to tell you about recent price trends, and predict the growth for future investments, than anyone on this board.
My guess would be that with the 2nd Ave subway coming on line, the 66th place may appreciate a bit more over time. But maybe that's already being factored into prices. Plus you'd have the inconvenience of construction if it's still going on
But I think nothing says "staid and old" like Park Ave. You guys are young enough to very much enjoy life and there's not a lot of that on 39th and Park where they're old, in bed, or nearly dead.

39th and Park is nothing like UES. Its not "old money" or as you called it "staid and old" Park Ave. Its completely different type of neighborhood.
