I gather some of the local fans would be composed of central and south Americans, Caribbeans, Albanians and long term Bronx Italian-Americans. Would of been nice if the franchise would of been called the Cosmos.
So what happens with the Red Bulls? Can this area really support two MLS teams? Seems like overkill to me. I love the idea of it being in the Bronx, but wondering about that part of it.

Red Bulls have their own state of the art stadium in NJ and it seems to be a success. I doubt they are willing to share a stadium with NYC FC. Especially when this soccer thing and its future in the Bronx is on a very shakey ground.
Love that it is happening in the Bronx but I would rather there be a MLS team filling up a 50k stadium than 2 teams doing just okay.
I would rather see a multi-purpose indoor arena
on that lot. Hopefully bigger than Barclays! In 10 years MSG will be demolished just like Penn Station and the old Yankee Stadium. Sadly historical value means nothing.

MSG just spent 3 summers and $1 Billion overhauling the Garden. Despite the NYC City Council only giving it a 10-year permit, I don't think that the rebuild was only for a decade.
Still, IMO there's nothing especially historic, or even attractive, about the building. The previous 3 Gardens were all torn down, perhaps this one will be demolished one day, as well. The location is great, however, with LIRR, Amtrak, NJ Transit, PATH & NYC subways beneath it, so it would foolish to move it.
