I'm going for a mini-vacation (6 days) in April and when I ran the numbers comparing taking a cab from Astoria to JFK vs parking my car in a long-term facility, the totals are so close that I think it's better just to park some place close to the airport and make my trip more convenient.
Can anyone suggest a decent and reliable parking lot?
The lot below has mixed reviews, but the price at $80 for 6 days is the best I've found so far.
Dude, JFK parking sucks - there's no two ways about it. The time and trouble to get from a long term lot near there to your terminal/gate would be better served taking the LIRR/airtrain and saving the money
What's wrong with the "official" JFK long term parking lots ? They are right at the air train stops @ Howard Beach.You literally park your car and walk across the lot to the air train,which is free.I think the parking is $18/day.,tax included. http://www.panynj.gov/airports/airport-parking-jfk.cfm
A lot of the lots outside of the airport don't include tax in their advertised price and are not really very convenient.They offer van shuttles that you sometimes have to wait 1/2 an hour for.It's a needless hassle.Parking your car and walking right onto the air train that runs every 5 minutes is very easy.Ditto for your return.

You will know what's wrong as soon as you use them. They are far away from the JFK terminals and you need to take the airtrain from the lots to the terminals. The train is free from there but the problem is that the lots are jam packed. To get a spot, you have to drive far from the train station and then either shlep your luggage to and up to the train platform or take a shuttle bus. Then you need to wait for the train and take the ride over there. I will never park at JFK ever again, I would rather park near an LIRR station or get a ride from a friend

A couple of things;
If taking the subway (there's no LIRR in Astoria btw) was among my considerations, do you think I would bother opening this thread? Just think about it for a minute.
I'm traveling with my wife, a small child and several pieces of luggage. And I'm not putting them through a rush hour subway experience.
I usually ask a friend to drive me out to the airport, but I'm traveling during business hours, so it's either a cab or long term parking. And I'm leaning toward the latter right now.

btw, most commercial parking are located around conduit ave, and that's at most 10 mins from the terminal.
use your brain for a second - you're bringing a child yet you want to deal with low budget lots in Jamaica, Queens?
Are you high or something
Take a cab or park by an LIRR station
