Build new buildings (with ground floor retail) on the parking/open lots surrounding many of these projects. Move the current residents into the new buildings, then demolish the old ones. Keep repeating until they're all replaced.

This way, no one gets displaced. Everyone gets to live in better, safer, healthier new digs. NYCHA/City doesn't need to spend so much on maintenance and repair. More housing units added. Everyone is happy.

So is the rent for NYCHA residents going up or are they making a more aggressive effort to collect on unpaid rent? A bit unclear from the article.

NYCHA should study the success story of Singapore housing program. Find out what we can learn from them.

I get the impression both. Parking at NYCHA is going up $150.

De blasio is going to bankrupt the city. It'll happen 10 years from now, and it's going to be his fault. Thanks for increasing murders in NYC de blasio

He won't be mayor 10 years from now. NYC has term limits. It also remains to be seen if he gets reelected.

With that said de Blasio is leasing out project land and he has sold some projects. He won't bankrupt the city

I am not concern with who actually does the actual building, just as long it's done in the manner I mentioned.

The only way to save public housing in NYC is to either raise rents to near market rate levels for those that work and or sell available underused land.

Sell used property instead. Sell the ones that can raise lots of money. Fort Greene, LES, Chelsea, Williamsburg and Astoria PJ land can be sold to developers for a nice amount I'm sure. Even the ones in Bed-Stuy and Bushwick. Take the money and put it to use. There might even be some left over to upgrade the projects further from the core.

That too. Some housing projects that are not located inside of developments should be sold off and converted into coops for first time home owners, if not that than be demolished to either make way for affordable housing or an overpriced condo. Either way NYCHA will get its money.
