What's funny is the very statistical data that you cite indicate that NYC now is considerably safer than it was in the Giuliani era. Humiliating 800k people to find 800 guns seems like a tremendous waste of resources. In fact S&F was sharply reduced in Bloomberg's last year and yet crime didn't spike.

I am sure that even you will realize that Bratton's strategy of identifying who the trouble makers and criminals in each community are, and focusing police resources on them is way more effective than sending a bunch of 25 y/o cops wanting to arrest every young male in sight.

The most effective Police Commissioner which Giuliani had was Bratton. The sharp drop in crime began under Bratton. So what is this rant all about?

Train in station. Passengers pass from one car to the other, and the cops stationed there arrest them. We are NOT talking about a train in motion. And while this is happening several people had already jumped the turnstile, but got away.
I always say things along these lines yet the pro stop and frisk crowd always seems to ignore them

Beyond that, the mayor has little control over immigration policy.

I do not disagree that this needs a solution. We cannot help everyone before we do far better serving the people we already have.

And for the pro-landlord people ? Landlords won't be voting in favor of residency requirements for anything. They are making a tremendous amount of money setting up "rehab" centers in order to warehouse apartments until they can quietly deregulate. There is one such venue on St. N. Terrace and not one of the residents is from New York. This was openly marketed in other states.
You have had some people coming to NYC for more generous benefit packages for a LONG TIME.

It's not NEW.

That is not the Mayors fault that is the current trending fault.

1. People who are against him, will do things to raise crime rates

2. You have corrupt city officials including the news, police, and other public employees

3. Also the reason is because the news is just reporting as many crimes as possible. In reality the crime rate is more or less the same.

4. Other news, since 2001 crime rates have been down because NewYorkers ( the citizens ) have been depressed. Even before De Blasio was elected there was this guy who shot an cop and the media showed his big gigantic mouth opening up as his hip-hop, rapper, neo-street self, was being walked off in times square. This proves De Blasio is innocent.

5. People have been using video cameras on police officers to show how they are disobeying the law and peoples rights. There are tons of videos of people rights being violated for no reason by the police. The police problem is part of the 2001 problem. Where officers have been trained to deal with terrorist suspects but using these tactics on non-terror people. Even the previous police commissioner had words to say about that. Basically current officers needs to leave the state of mind of 2001.

6. In fact the police have been enforcing jay-walking laws more often, then real problems. Most of these law breakers are not violent people at all. The reason for the current trend is that people are still representing gangs, from 1970's instead of actually studying harder or getting jobs. In fact you have people in the workplaces ( like at Wal-mart ) who live in suburbs like Long Island, representing gang violence. Long Island is now an hub for gang violence as well. What about them De Blasio????

7. Meanwhile police are harassing people who live inside of government and affordable housing. Harassing people for walking gayly. Harassing bystanders based on there race. Harassing and harassing people, over and over again. Trying to arrest people for not producing identification. Trying to make it legal for illegals to get id, so they can arrest real citizens for not having id.

8. De Blasio is trying to protect the city as an whole. Reason for the harassment is that officers are not making any arrest or finding problems.

For a second I'll pretend that this is an actual issue: why don't Red States just care for their citizens then? I would think that would solve the "problem" as well

It's not an issue, but it happens.

The thing is now NYC has not accepted any new applications for Section 8 since 2009. Public housing and other types of affordable housing have long wait lists. A newcomer to NYC can move in the shelter/SRO system but getting out of that will take quite some time.

So that severely curtails anyone from moving to NYC for benefits.

As for the red states, they do have benefits and welfare. NY is simply a lot more GENEROUS.

Because they believe that cutting them off will force them to work. This is a central aspect of conservative social policy.

I do not know whether I would call it an "issue," exactly, but it is a growing phenomenon that will likely increase.

Seriously, who voted for de balsio? City seems to be sliding backwards. I think Bratton is being held back from doing his job.

Wonder why the real estate and rents are still high. May be if a foreign investor is assaulted, things might go south.

All the training in the world won't change the fact that the current political climate has made it clear to cops that they are better off ignoring criminal activity altogether, especially when minorities are involved. What magic went on over the prior 20 years that none of this special training was needed then? Hmmmm.
