So I'm a teacher that's strongly considering jumping into the DSNY.. passed the physical today and now I'm just waiting. I'm trying to find out whether or not I'd hit 110-120K easy w/ OT given the new contract after 5 1/2 years ?
........."hit 110-120k easy w/OT given"
The word is "easily." It's an adverb. You're the worst teacher ever. You should immediately make the switch for the good of the students.
All kidding aside, I was a high school English teacher for the city before this and I feel I made the right choice. How easily you hit that money mark is going to depend on a lot of factors though. Your seniority in your garage, what kind of a winter do we have, what kind of Sunday setup does your garage have, do you work your charts etc etc etc. Nothing is guaranteed but it's not a ridiculous goal.
Yea I know they would probably figure it out at some point. But some people are that crazy to try it.
Also was told the first guy that went in my cousins group failed cause he couldn't lift the cans
They are matching your fingerprints from when you were printed when you took the exam, not with your record. If your prints don't match the exam prints you're probably out.

What would be a very realistic goal regarding compensation once a SW hits top pay? Taking into consideration an average year, if there is such a thing.

You might be the only person that got finger printed during the exam. Or do you mean when you pass and get called for the medical??
He's basically telling you to assume base pay. No one is going to get rich off this job. Be prepared to live off the basic pay. Whatever else comes along, yay. Maybe we have a blizzard, maybe it doesn't snow at all. Maybe you end up as a GU, love it and never worry about truck. Just worry about the basics.
Anyone think they will get up to #5800? I dont mind waiting but just not sure if they will reach it or not before the next test. Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks.
