hahhah. I always feel like im a weirdo when I close my bedroom door, like im beng antisocial or something. I rent a bedroom (in a two bedroom apartment). I've been here forever so the place seems like half mine, but I don't like having my bedroom door open when im in it. I agree with the person who said some weed together hahahah.

Get headphones. I'm a mega-introvert and they're the reason I haven't snapped after all these roommates.

If this is your biggest problem, you are so lucky.

Even if said broom closet was in East New York, still better than a roommate.

The only way I'd prefer a roommate to living alone is if i can walk to work and not have the double whammy with the MTA.

You see, I'm a little bit of an introvert and like my alone time. When I come home, my roommate's always already in the house. He leaves his bedroom door almost completely open when he watches movies or is in his computer. I find this annoying since sometimes I want to cook and I hear sounds from his room and if he hears me in the kitchen, he comes to make small talk.

Even when he goes to sleep, he never closes his door. No matter which season. His bed is right by the door, so if he's lying there, he basically has a view to the living room/kitchen and can see every move I make. I feel like I have no privacy unless I'm locked up in my room.

Now, do you think it's acceptable for him to leave his door open? Am I overreacting? I wanted your opinion before bringing up the subject to him.

As for what is bolded, you DON'T have privacy in common areas. I would never expect privacy in an area that I share with a roommate. He can do whatever he wants with his door.

I don't think you have any right in telling him he should close his door. I do think you could possibly say something like, "Hey, I am about to cook dinner and I want to listen to something. Mind if you close your door for a bit so it doesn't interfere with what you're watching?"

Since you never really want to interact with this person from the sound of it, you sound like an ideal candidate to living alone.

Sleeping with the door open is kinda strange in my opinion. I've slept with my door closed at night my entire life and most, if not all, people I know do as well. But as far as having it open during the day. I'd just deal with, unless he is doing something really loud then I'd simply just ask to shut the door because it's distracting.
