I don't think there are many Mom & Pops anymore. The last specialty place I purchased one from was on Ave Z, but that was nearly 30 years ago. Here's one, but it's pretty expensive:

Those kind of businesses went out with the dodo. They just could not compete and their slow business made them raise their prices to astronomical numbers before their last client decided on Home Depot and they shut their doors.


Hardware stores are next.

If you have a car you'll need to go NJ during the weekend (more staff on hand) to see wider selections at HD or Lowes. Click on their websites and ones that state around 90 available for pickup are the ones that are going to have a better selection to look at. In today's retail market expect clerks and not salespeople. You may want to re-create the thread on the NJ forum.

PATH train to Newport and a short walk will get you to a full service Home Depot just outside the EXIT ramps of the Holland Tunnel. They have twice the stuff of the Manhattan stores.
