Who cares? Seriously?

You're over here acting like Arthur Schwartz. You recognize that other cultures' foods have been adapted for American palates/America but can't accept that it happens with Italian food too? That is suuuch food snobbery lol.

Plenty of people care. For the record, this thread is about *Italian* restaurants, not *Italian-American* places, so there's a difference. There's *Italian* food and *Italian-American* food, and they are not the same. Taste is different and portion sizes too.

Mangia in Midtown East, I believe would be considered authentic Italian food at least in the upstairs full service dining room area.

Mexicans cook in all sorts of restaurants around here, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You should be banned, you only post garbage.

Excellent tips in this topic, thanks pierre. Yeah but actually Im okay with Olive Garden every once in a while because its inexpensive and fills me up. Id much rather have a nice authentic dining experience but OG is cool for me since Im on a budget.

Maialino is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I also like Lupa in the Village and Al Di La in Park Slope. There are actually plenty of "authentic" Italian places around. Most newer places are Italian rather than Italian-american so if you do a google search on whatever area you happen to be in, you'll probably find good ones pretty easily.

when you're friend's mom make a good sauce, the restaurants cannot really compare.

I never get chicken parm. Always eggplant.

I usually just get pizza.

I'm actually looking at these recommendations myself. Thanks to all who contributed.

The "Sunday gravy" thing you're referring to is more of an Italian-American thing. To my underatanding, Italian food isn't as heavy on the sauce.
